Dollar Landscapes
In an era dominated by technology, the ubiquity of landscape imagery permeates our daily lives. From souvenir shops and social media to travel advertisements, the motivations behind capturing these vistas have shifted. Gone are the days of Francis Frith's arduous journeys with glass plates, where years were spent to unveil new facets of our world. Today, landscapes are effortlessly immortalized with our handheld devices, quickly uploaded to the internet to mark the places we've trod, often reduced to mere checkmarks on our travel itineraries.
As we gaze upon a landscape photograph, it's all too easy to measure its popularity or tally up the attractions it boasts. We've become adept at traversing the globe with a simple swipe. Yet, too often, these landscapes fail to etch themselves into our memories; they become just one more checkbox on our travel wish list. How, then, can we rekindle the sense of awe for the sublime and not overlook the inherent splendor that graces our planet?
In this series, my aim is to draw the audience into the staggering scale of landscapes. Through the use of tangible reference points and numerical data, we'll unravel the sheer magnitude of our world. Together, we will immerse ourselves in these landscapes, embarking on a visual odyssey through the lens. It's my hope to impart the joy of discovery, reminding us that beauty thrives in our world beyond the confines of tourist hotspots and passing trends.
